Heavy Water is a shorter, one-day course generally used as a refresher or add-on for personnel who have already completed the CSFM Open Water Rescuer – Basic course. It is essentially an abbreviated version of the Basic course delivered entirely in the ocean, typically in the winter months when it's cold and the surf is bigger. The eight-hour course satisfies the California State Fire Marshal's annual training hour requirements, so your certified personnel stay current while training in real conditions.
One limitation worth noting: this course depends on the presence of a significant swell to be effective. That makes it difficult to schedule with certainty and less suited as a starting point. With that said, we can make it work, and we watch the forecast with you.
Skills that hold up in small surf don't automatically hold up when it's big, cold and confused. Heavy Water is where personnel find that out safely, with a rescue safety staff watching every swimmer.

$250 per person. The fee covers our insurance to host the class plus an ocean rescue safety staff at a ratio of 1 instructor to 8 students.
